I Have Overcome The World (LS83)

John 16:33  "These things I have spoken to you, that in Me you may have peace. In the world you will have tribulation; but be of good cheer, I have overcome the world.”

This was the last sentence our Lord spoke to His disciples before His arrest and crucifixion. How comforting and encouraging it is for everyone of us today who has problems overcoming the world and the things therein?

in Me you may have Peace

John 14:26-27  "But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in My name, He will teach you all things, and bring to your remembrance all things that I said to you. Peace I leave with you, My peace I give to you; not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid."

After the Helper has taught us all things and has brought to our remembrance all things that our Lord had told us, then we will have complete understanding of His words affecting us. So when we meet any persecution, disaster, problem, illness, etc. and with the  foreknowledge or understanding that this chastisement is out of His love in refining us, we will gladly accept it. Having this faith in God that He is in complete control of the situation, our Lord Jesus will give us His peace which is beyond all understanding to comfort us and give us rest.

John 7:38-39  "He who believes in Me, as the Scripture has said, out of his heart will flow rivers of living water.” But this He spoke concerning the Spirit, whom those believing in Him would receive; for the Holy Spirit was not yet given, because Jesus was not yet glorified.

With the Spirit of truth teaching and guiding us and the peace of our Lord Jesus in us during the time of tribulation, distress, nakedness, etc. our hearts will overflow with His living water. Filled with the joy of the Lord and the peace of God, we will be able to overcome all adversities to the glory of God.

Rom 8:35  Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? Shall tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or peril, or sword?

The Prophecy of a new Spirit

Eze 11:19-20  Then I will give them one heart, and I will put a new spirit within them, and take the stony heart out of their flesh, and give them a heart of flesh, that they may walk in My statutes and keep My judgments and do them; and they shall be My people, and I will be their God.

It was prophesied by Ezekiel that a new Spirit - the Spirit of truth, Helper or Comforter will be given to His people so that we will be able to walk in His words and will. We will no longer have the heart of stone (fear, stiff-necked, heartless, merciless, etc.) but the heart of flesh (filled with love, mercy, compassion and the fruit of the Spirit). Then we will rejoice with Him in overcoming this world and the things therein and also able to help others to be set free from the bondage of sin just like His disciples in the book of Acts.

John 8:34,36  Jesus answered them, “Most assuredly, I say to you, whoever commits sin is a slave of sin. Therefore if the Son makes you free, you shall be free indeed."

Eze 11:21  But as for those whose hearts follow the desire for their detestable things and their abominations, I will recompense their deeds on their own heads,” says the Lord God.

Unfortunately, many who refuse to obey Him nor keep His words, because they love this world more than God, will have to face His judgment.
